CF Geoplugin alternative: the rename to Geo Controller, its limits and four other routes, priced

CF Geoplugin alternative: the plugin is now Geo Controller

CF Geo Plugin is now called Geo Controller, so its alternatives are other ways to redirect or localize by location: Advanced GeoIP Redirect, If-So, Geo Targetly and Cloudflare rules. Geo Controller is free up to 500 lookups a day and relies on an external API for IP lookups; a paid license removes the cap.

As read on October 30, 2026, Monthly is $19.00 a month for one website, Personal $89 a year for one website, Freelancer $132 a year for up to 5 websites and Business $349 a year. Refund terms differ by license: Monthly and Personal carry no guarantee, while Freelancer, Business and the four-year licenses carry 14 days.

Caching and accuracy on each route

Geo Controller warns that full-page caching can serve one cached location to every visitor. Advanced GeoIP Redirect Pro lists support for 25+ caching plugins and server-level caching. If-So says its geo redirect runs in the browser once the cached page has been served, and Geo Targetly's script also runs in the browser, not on your server.

On accuracy, four vendors say the same thing: IP location is an estimate. Geo Controller says VPNs, proxies, mobile networks and CDN configuration can change results; If-So says no IP-to-location service is 100 percent accurate; Cloudflare calls IP geolocation an estimate with no accuracy SLA; and Geo Targetly's Geo Block page says geolocation is approximate and based on IP databases.

Which alternative to move to

• Advanced GeoIP Redirect for a free country-only redirect from MaxMind's Lite database; the Advanced GeoIP Redirect alternative guide prices its Pro plans.
• If-So for geolocation conditions inside WordPress, starting on its free tier of 250 geo sessions a month.
• Geo Targetly for several location tools on a site that is not WordPress. It has a WordPress plugin, but the listing says a paid account is required.
• Cloudflare for a country redirect on a site already on Cloudflare; Free covers the country field and Business adds the state field.

For WordPress-only options side by side, see the geo redirect WordPress plugin guide. A site leaving WordPress plugins behind can try Geo Targetly for 14 days with no credit card; the Geo Targetly review covers its plans and limits.
